700r4 Hard shifts and car jolts into drive?

I have a 1992 camaro with the 305 v8. When ever I shift into drive(well, overdrive) the whole car jolts a lot. When I'm driving, it shifts hard from 1 to 2 then 2 to 3 depending on how hard I am on the gas. If i push the gas down a lot it will shift a lot better. I figures it was a bad tv cable but I replaced that. Now that cable is stuck out. Could it be a stuck throttle valve in the transmission valve body? I've read that the 700r4 has that problem. I don't want to ruin the transmission and it doesn't help my gas mileage either.
