Is this legal for my last job?

i applied for a job with a competitor. now i did a bg check on myself from my last job and they screwed me. instead of saying i resigned they put i was terminated in the email. i resigned with approval from my sup and hiring manager. now hr reported i was terminated and plus they put out my full ss# in the email they could of just put my last four digits. the job i interviewed for i told them i resigned and now i get this info what can i tell them now or should i even tell them anything i don't want to look like i lied cause i didn't. is there anything i can do now or should i just forget about this job.
